Although we are in the midst of winter, on days when the weather is tolerable and not minus double digits, it’s still realistic to consider this as an option.

No need to travel by foot to get to this spot either, as it’s conveniently located right next to the studio’s entrance. A quick 3 minute session against this wall is enough time to get a handful of images (before your body can even adjust to the cold temperature!)

Although it may seem like a boring choice at first, shoot against our off white background and experience the flexibility it has. With a couple clicks you have the option of having us turn it into a bright white, with pumped up highlights blowing out the background reminiscent of a cheesy stock photo (should your company require that style of course).

The other day we had a little photoshoot field trip on location to an office up north of our studio in the downtown east end. The company requested we shoot against their large office window to make the photos bright and cheerful for their website. The shapes of the building in the background had enough graphic elements to be interesting but not distracting.

If you like this look and wish you could have an office with a view for your portrait, it is still is possible, all the while without ever stepping foot in the office. Bryn is a multi talented musician and artist who wanted some ongoing content to post on his social media and marketing. We did a low key shoot using only natural light, where we followed him though a morning in the life of Bryn. The shoot was playful, candid, and a great change of pace from the typical studio headshots.

I’ll be sharing more photos from the session in a future post, but for now enjoy these action shots taken while he was actually playing the harmonica (and beatboxing) at the same time—if you can believe it!

This year we are introducing our latest service, background clipping. Shooting against a white background, gives us the flexibility to do what most people have seen before only in films with a “green screen.” In photography we call this background masking, or clipping.

Simply think of it as a shortcut for you to get all the benefits of shooting environmentally on location, with out leaving the private and cozy studio. Please refer to our main page for more details and examples !

For all of our photoshoots, you have the option of sticking with the traditional literal headshot, or a 3/4 portrait. In our experience, there is nothing scarier than the sight of your own face close up.

The great thing about shooting 3/4 is it allows for more breathability, and if needed, it can always be cropped to a headshot style later on. Just make sure that when you are preparing your wardrobe for your headshot, to come with business on the top and on the bottom!

Though you would never be able to tell, this corporate portrait was taken location at an office along King Street. A quick Uber ride over and in 15 mins we were at the space, building our makeshift set for the day.

We always estimate about 10 mins per person, but the truth is it all depends on your staff’s willingness to get a great headshot ! Dont let the trauma of adolescence photo day get in the way of your adult portrait day. We’ve noticed when peoples nerves are calm, they are more likely to get a better expression and walk away with a photo they can enjoy and use for years to come.
