WINTER IN PHOTOLAND

/ / / / / how to dress seasonly appropiate for your portrait

It’s officially a new season and hey, I am not going to deny anyone if they want to get photos of themselves in summer dresses at this time of the year, but it’s much more fun to play with incorporating winter pieces in some of your looks. I mean who doesn’t want a photo of themselves looking like a GAP ad they can print and gift to the family?

Our tip of the day? Go all out and try heavily accessorizing your look with materials that match with the current season. Since it’s winter at the time of writing, knits, scarves, jackets, coats, and hats, all make for interesting layers that add character.

In this particular shot, the monotone colour palette and long silhouette of the coat create a stylish winter aesthetic. To accentuate the vibe, we added a bit of dark blue in the shadows for an extra touch of cool.

When applying to a modelling agency, though it’s not necessary, we do encourage you to get your feet wet and try out a photoshoot before you commit to any contractual agreements with agencies just yet. Here’s a shot from a diy portfolio session where you come “set ready” with your own hair, makeup, and wardrobe. Black and white photographs are always recommended, as well as fashion that has black and white elements making for a strong impression. Ask our advice if you want to see examples of what to wear on the day of your photoshoot!

Dale was from the States and was in town for a brief period of time only. Due to the flexibility of our packages, were able to fit him in for a 40 min session midday. He needed a headshot to submit for theatre gigs, so we thought white was the most diplomatic and clean slated. Let us help you get your best first impression, with our open hours from 9am-9pm, we can be sure to set up something up 7 days a week, morning or night!

Can I be a bit geeky and say we LOVE shooting actors/actresses? Though they book the same package as business headshots, yet they flood us with variation in their facial expressions. They constantly impress us with the range of emotions they can depict with out moving their body an inch.

Eveleigh got the Complete Package and brought several outfits to cover all the bases, good, evil, and somewhere in between. Can’t wait to see what else this talented lady gets up to in 2019, all the best with your career Eveleigh!

Tina had a variety of changes in her photoshoot with us, and for one of them she stripped down let her hair loose for a clean and jewellery-free au naturale look. Interestingly enough, silhouettes becomes maximized when you minimize the details in a shot. This may seem a given on paper, but we really do underestimate the power of raw shapes, textures, and colours a lay our bare character.

Sirusha wanted images to get a portfolio started for herself and dip a toe into the world of posing for the lights and camera! She booked a 40 min session and brought 2 outfits that had very different vibes showcasing casual and elegant styles.

Here’s one of our favourites from the session! Though it was her first time in a professional photoshoot setting, she warmed up pretty quick and ended up surprising us with her gentle and organic hand posing (that’s one of the hardest things to nail—believe us).

Warm on warm on warm! Colour coordination is huge when it comes to “in the spotlight” type of studio shots. All things you thought were subtle, suddenly become showstoppers, and especially with our sensor, we are able to get a rich saturation from colour that you never even thought was there! Check out the subtle blue undertone in the pants, and how much softer it plays in this image than if it were a solid black.

We got a new toy for our studio—well most people would just call it a table, but for us it’s so much more than that! Opening a whole new world of possibility, we can now add more variation to Standard and Complete Packages! Now people can relax and lean on something while posing instead of point blank standing there. Cropped tightly, it puts the shoulders a more dynamic position, perfect for energetic business portraits or engaging acting headshots.
