Although we typically say a simple outfit is often the best approach when it comes to what to wear for your professional portrait, that’s not to say you can’t spice up your headshot with a top with some more personality. As long as you keep the patterns simple, graphics can add some non-distracting character to your portrait.
In this case, thin vertical lines create a pinstripe effect, leading the eyes towards the subject’s face ever so gently. If she were to be wearing a top with thick horizontal stripes however, the viewer’s eye would feel slightly more conflicted as their gaze would be directed to the sides of the image and not the face.
