tips for your corporate and linkedin headshot:

/ / / / / cozy and classic

Confused about what to wear for your corporate headshot? I could explain it in ways ways, but let’s start easy. Before there were colours, there were shades. There’s really no failing if you suit up with a classic black and white combo.

This outfit plays with what I like to call “primary shades” (obvious whites, a medium grey, or pure black). Anything primary will strongly communicate an element of contrast. What this means is where there is contrast, the eye will go.

Despite it’s draw to the eye, due to it’s simplicity there it provides no temptation for the eye to wander, as our focus is guided with ease towards the face.

tips for your studio portrait:

/ / / / / a modern family portrait

We’ve said it many times before, that we are like blood brothers of customization like Subway, but these days I’ve been thinking, we are actually better than Subway. At Subway you can’t bring your own ingredients to spice up your sandwich, but at King Street Photo Studio—you can.

We take personalization to the extreme, and provide no limitations on how many props and objects of your desire you can bring. So whether it’s your favourite coffee mug, sweater, cardigan thrown over your shoulder in a cheeky manner, or just your bff guitar, bring it along to your portrait session and let us capture you, how you like it.

corporate headshots on location:

/ / / / / our classic studio set up served “to-go”

The other day we took a little field trip to the CIBC office in Thornhill, where we met a handful of their senior and junior employees to update their headshots. Since we didn’t have the good fortune of finding a clean wall anywhere in the offices, we brought our own backdrop to recreate that in-studio feeling. With our professional lighting gear packed up, we’re only one call and an uber ride away from capturing your staff headshots and portrait !

to be or not to be organic with natural light:

/ / / / / warm skintones for familiarity

Though it’s great to have full control in the studio and create exactly the type of lighting you want, it’s always a fun idea to throw in a couple playful shots incorporating natural light to change the look up. Here you can see the skin tonality is a bit less contoured as well the colour feels warmer because of cast from the sun. When shooting portraiture we usually tend to lean towards having natural light as the main source since it’s a tint that our eyes are used to seeing in everyday life.

to do or not to do black and white headshots:

/ / / / / classic but not conservative portraiture

Twist it up from your colleagues and jump on your chance to get not only a formal portrait, but a bit of a personality shot by adding a touch of business casual. Roll up your sleeves, undo a couple buttons and let your tie loose for a character portrait that stands out from the lot. We like this take on a corporate portrait where we took inspiration from acting headshots, promoting class and good character with a silhouetted black and white effect.

George is in the middle of launching his company and wanted to look sharp but current for his photos. To help things move along smoothly, he requested one look be styled for him. After providing us with reference photos of the fashion he likes, we were able to put together a classy outfit with a bit of character. We love getting inspiration images, mainly because we are geeks at analyzing and breaking information down. From George’s reference photos, I was able to tell that he liked cool colours versus warm tones, and he was a fan of sweaters that had a crew cut as opposed to a V neck or cardigan style. Whether he even knew these things or not is a rather good question!

Though spring is technically still here, it’s still a bit chilly to whip out your best tee and shades look for your portrait. Not to worry as jackets and boots appear just as cool! In this shot we popped outside quickly to the building next door for a clean and low-key brick background. One advantage we have shooting outside versus having your photoshoot in the studio is the ability to change up the posing and background variety. This leaning pose is an easy way to relax your body weight, and when you’re relaxed you’re more likely to get a natural expression. Please enquire if you’re interested in having all or part of your photoshoot outdoors!
