Don’t be afraid to explore outside the box and pick a background option that’s not black or white, or even grey for that matter. The great thing about photography nowadays is the magic of photoshop is not only useful for removing your acne and double chins, but also for giving the background a bit of a facelift.

This background, believe it or not was actually bright blue ! There was a bit of a crossover between the background and his suit, so we toned it down in photoshop to be a modest blue-grey.

It’s been 10 years since Serena updated her headshot, and like most people, she was not looking forward to the experience ! Since she liked her previous headshot, she was additionally nervous that she could get a photo she liked as much as her old one. Her realtor colleagues all had their headshots on a white background so she had to get hers to match the website.

In the end she got our quickest package since she only needed one portrait, but we still made sure she enjoyed the process and walked away with a new favourite photo!

We are excited to announce an update on our dark grey background ! Previously we had used a shade that was just a touch lighter than this one. It was our go to dark grey this past year, but over time we noticed that it just wasn’t hitting the spot for some people, as it was not that light, and not that dark.

We concluded that when it comes to business headshots and Linkedin portraits, backgrounds that go either way light or way dark are better than a happy medium. If you prefer a light option, you can choose between bright white, off white or light grey, and for the dark options we have dark grey, black, and navy.

Sometimes we suggest midway through your headshots to loosen up the crop and have our photographer backup to capture you from further away. The benefits of a 3/4 shot is that the focal point, your face, is literally less in your face, so the shot feels breathable. The downside is that there are more aspects to consider to nail the image such as wardrobe styling and posing.

Daniel has many years of experience working as a realtor for Remax. After a decade of using a photo taken from a friend of a friend, and with big ideas for a billboard advertisement on the horizon, an updated headshot was in order.

Of course I do believe in general it’s better to have a photo than to not have a photo, however with each yearcoughcellphonecough, that passes, the expectation for higher quality images increases. It’s not to say we are steadily desiring to see more of ourselves in crisp resolution, just that technology has a funny way of creeping upwards whether we like it or not.

There’s a fine balance between showing the right amount of head to body ratio in a headshot. And although the term is classically called a “headshot” that does not mean you should strictly stick to capturing the subjects head only. Not only do most people fear seeing their face take up most of the space in the photo, but its also harder to convey personality when things are cut off at the shoulders.

We offer a couple variations to change up the posing to be more natural and inclusive of hand postures that convey positive body language. This shot is a nice happy balance of showing hands, which psychologically symbolize trust, and a bit of an open body position.
