We love this little private alleyway to give a nice rustic and warm, yellow brick background. A refreshing new taste on the classic red brick that we often use. As the season changes, the lighting in this little gem of a spot changes with us. Keep posted for how our outdoor portraits get along this fall!

We shot this realtor portrait the other day using our standard white backdrop, and blowing out the details for a fresh and bright white. This way it’s easy to use for promotional materials since most things are printed on white, as well is easy to clip out for your graphic designer to use for marketing material. To achieve this, we just bounce a light against our white seamless backdrop. The only downside is we aren't able to use it for full body, but luckily when you’re dealing with “head” shots, that’s not a problem!

One thing I’ve noticed after being in this industry for quite some time, is how much the weather and photoshoots have in common. We’ve seen a trend of calls/shoots increasing when the weather is better, or when storms have calmed down and people become “hopeful” again. With the weather comes the change of seasons too, and these days we’ve noticed our black background flying off the wall being customer’s most popular choice this past October! Here’s a solid example from a recent shoot for a PI (private investigator)… I can’t say much else… can I?

This time of the year, the sun creeps out behind a condo and hits this modern and ever so rustic brick wall. The areas we can use change seasonally, and we’re happen to get great light and a bit of dimension with this wall. Crop it tight for a geometric and clean all brick background, or let the composition hang loose and get a trio of textures!

Here’s a great snapshot from a corporate business headshot the other week. Although you can’t even tell, Ami actually had a different shade of lipstick on originally, that we retouched to be slightly more pink at her request. Most editing requests we are able to accommodate, so it’s better to ask than swallow your feelings—perfection can’t be reached in real life, but photography isn’t always real life is it!

Jennifer has a fine eye for unique fabric and cuts, and we loved the outfit she coordinated! We always recommend our clients to bring a variety of options to play with and see how things turn out on set.
For example, you may have two black jackets that look very similar in real life, but once photographed, the result could look totally different. Since our camera is high resolution, it’s able to pick up on textural differences. Believe it or not, even the thickness of the fabric can read through!

Nathalie came in for our quickie Minimal Package, and we made sure to get as much variation as we could within the timeframe. In the end, she only received one edited photo, as well as access to all the unedited images we shot in case she is in need of a refresher portrait in the future. Although you do always have the option of adding on extra edited photos, since Nathalie had very smooth skin and a squeaky clean outfit, she could get away with out any editing!

Here’s a shot against this lovely concrete wall with a green accent, taken bright and early in a morning session. The area around the studio is in the middle of a huge development. In recent years, the landscape of the neighbourhood has changed quite a bit, which means the pop up of new buildings has given us some things great new spots to shoot at. Ask us more about having a session on location if you’re curious to add some character to your headshot!
