Gabby works for a boutique real estate firm and wanted an organic and rustic background to match their warehouse like office. She booked a double session with herself and a colleague, and we got some nice variation on this pleasing yellow brick wall. It was a rather private spot due to it being located in an alleyway, which also helped serve as protection from the wind that day.

One big tip we have when shooting against white is to consider having the other tones not be as bright, and reflect different shades. For example, Sanja’s blazer here is not black, but a soft navy, and her shirt—not white, but a subtle pink. These little details are not crucial, but essential if you’re looking to stand out from the crowd.

Laura Jeanne is an Asthanga yoga teacher who needed some branding photos for her website. She booked the Complete Package, where she went all out with variation starting from formal and ending up in athletic wear. With less time pressure and unlimited changes, she was free to experiment with different outfits and props at her own pace. Definitely this softly distressed warm toned shirt was amongst the best looks of the day, as it was harmonious yet contrasting to the vivid green tones we were working with on location.

We shot this lovely portrait the other day of Shayne the other day for her professional usage. She brought an outfit change with her, but ended up going with her first instinct which was this monochromatic yet unique asymmetrical neckline. The great thing about this shirt is its not distracting yet adds intrigue and frames her face perfectly.

Here’s a classic look that has been taken down a notch into casual territory, simply by abandoning the tie! When in doubt, a well fitted black jacket and crisp white shirt can never do you wrong, especially when you’re trying to make a fresh first impression. We brightened the background here ever so slightly than in our other soft white horizontal orientation, to create more of an impact in this tightly cropped portrait.

Bernard needed a photo for LinkedIn and corporate usage. Though it looks like a typical round of the mill session, the interesting thing that happened during this shoot was during our feedback moments in between rounds. We had all collectively agreed, along with Bernard himself, that he preferred his body facing out towards the right. In the end, it turns out the money shot (his final selection) was that facing the other direction!
Overtime, we’ve learned that no matter what our emotions are saying in the moment, in times of reflection, we often dabble in considering other options. That’s why it’s always good to try as much variation in the moment as possible, and be open minded coming into the session.

Here's a quick headshot we took in our studio against our soft white background. Adi did come equipped with anti flare glasses already, though despite that, there still ended up being the slightest bit of flare, Due to the nature of glasses, they also often make a shadow on the face due to the frame, of which we completely softened in this portrait (can you tell—probably not!)
