Jack needed a quick photo for his company, so he booked our minimal package to get the ball rolling! We loved how muted of a tone he chose for his shirt, adding intrigue without being overtly eye catching. The only place you want to catch others eyes, is on your eyes! It is after all instinctive for us to connect with others, and undeniably essential when it comes to making a good first impression.

We love how Alvin sported this tieless take on a classic navy suit straight from the get go. In fact, he was so confident in this fresh look—that he didn’t even bring a tie to the session!
Now, we’ve been doing this a lot, and I can tell you that when considering the “no tie look,” a proper dress shirt must be taken into account. Ties have these wonderfully useful ability to hide cheaper fabrics, thus making them look more polished. Remove the tie—expose the shirt.
Take a closer look and notice how you can feel the firm and crispness of the collar, the way the fabric reacts with the lighting creating smooth and silky shadows. Subtly, subtly, subtly. It’s what we always say on set. Little details make all the difference when shooting with a high resolution, high definition camera.
Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the subtle monochromatic stitching on his lapel. Though seemingly insignificant, it makes all the difference when it comes to first impressions.

Gabby works for a boutique real estate firm and wanted an organic and rustic background to match their warehouse like office. She booked a double session with herself and a colleague, and we got some nice variation on this pleasing yellow brick wall. It was a rather private spot due to it being located in an alleyway, which also helped serve as protection from the wind that day.

Welcome to our studio—our brand new LIGHT GREY background! It’s subtle, yet on set, subtle is what we always strive for. Everything is under the microscope when flattened into a 2D image. Simplicity is a force to be reckoned with. In other words, don’t underestimate the strength that the slightest graphical change can have on a first impression. This grey we now carry offers the opportunity for portraits to feel warm, lifting, honest, and even inspirational, as it lays very soft against the skin.

Back to black—er, I mean white! You can’t go wrong with our most popular background choice. Professional and crisp, suitable for resumes, job application, Linkedin, press releases, company branding, realtor, or for any portrait where you want a fresh and clean first impression. One big tip we have when shooting against white is to consider having the other tones not be as bright, and reflect different shades. For example, Sanja’s blazer here is not black, but a soft navy, and her shirt—not white, but a subtle pink. These little details are not crucial, but essential if you’re looking to stand out from the crowd.

Laura Jeanne is an Asthanga yoga teacher who needed some branding photos for her website. She booked the Complete Package, where she went all out with variation starting from formal and ending up in athletic wear. With less time pressure and unlimited changes, she was free to experiment with different outfits and props at her own pace. Definitely this softly distressed warm toned shirt was amongst the best looks of the day, as it was harmonious yet contrasting to the vivid green tones we were working with on location.
