I can’t tell you how many people ask us for a business portrait that “doesn’t look like a typical business portrait”. Similarly, these same people also have an adversity towards a white background, because in their mind, they are imagining bright white stock photo. Even though we can make our white super bright, this is what our white looks looks like by default. We believe off white is gentler on the eyes and won’t give people an outdated impression.

Dale was from the States and was in town for a brief period of time only. Due to the flexibility of our packages, were able to fit him in for a 40 min session midday. He needed a headshot to submit for theatre gigs, so we thought white was the most diplomatic and clean slated. Let us help you get your best first impression, with our open hours from 9am-9pm, we can be sure to set up something up 7 days a week, morning or night!

Although we encourage people typically to show a bit of neckline for added “humanity”—Clara broke the rules in the best possible way all thanks to her masterful styling choices. A light shade for her blouse and a navy for her coat, match all too well against her tan skin, dark hair and medium toned background. The shades are very balanced, and therefore very pleasing, and therefore our eyes aren’t craving to sit anywhere in particular and everything just feels right. Had she not have worn the jacket however, a couple buttons undone would definitely be in order. Of course, leave the crazy clothing math to us, and do us a favour and bring us some options to play with!

We are studio guys, we know that, but we do like to plan field trips outside the studio as much as we can. One could say the challenge of shooting on location is the most fun part, but for us it’s simply the change of work environment that thrills us.

Why am I talking about travelling on location in such an *obvious* studio post? Because lo and behold, this shot was taken on location. Shot no more than 10 mins away in an office on the 37th floor of King St West, tucked away in the corner of a presentation room. We had a great wall of bright (but not blinding) sun acting as a huge soft box to light our subjects that day for a group of headshots.

“Blue”—there’s so much I can say about “Blue.” I can start by freaking and geeking out at the fact that men have been brainwashed as children to wear it and therefore love all shades of blue including it’s baby shade (despite it feeling gender neutral in the mainstream).

I can continue by adding that from a psychological and therefore scientific perspective, “Blue” will always read as the most friendly colour in the rainbow. Designers use this to their advantage to appear more humanistic by using “Blue” *cough* facebook *cough* to make good first impressions.

Lastly may I introduce to you the weird fact of the day, which is that “Blue” happened to be the very last colour to be named. Such an instinctively common colour be named last? Yes! It turns out the only things that are blue in nature were the sky and the ocean, therefore there was no urge to put a name on it.

Can I be a bit geeky and say we LOVE shooting actors/actresses? Though they book the same package as business headshots, yet they flood us with variation in their facial expressions. They constantly impress us with the range of emotions they can depict with out moving their body an inch.

Eveleigh got the Complete Package and brought several outfits to cover all the bases, good, evil, and somewhere in between. Can’t wait to see what else this talented lady gets up to in 2019, all the best with your career Eveleigh!

It may sound strange, but believe me when I say showing your ear in a business portrait is a lot trickier than it seems! For whatever the reason, we associate ears with youth. My theory is that since kids have such healthy hair, it often gets in the way and they have to put it back out of habit and practicality. Sooner or later they grow up with a nagging society telling them to loosen up and “let their hair down.”

In our years of shooting, we have however seen one exception across the boards, which is that ears pair well with fresh asymmetrical bobs. Due to the weight of the haircut already being unbalanced, the ear accentuates this silhouette and makes it more comfortable to look at, acting as a frame to the face.

Let us take you a step outside for a whole new world of backgrounds! Brick is one of the magical textures that works for almost anything. Professional yet approachable and down to earth, these are the things that brick evokes with out being too over stating. The minimalist wardrobe contrasts its sharp and modern silhouette against a fluffy bokeh of bricks. Warm in nature, you can’t go wrong with placing any skin tone against this background.
